Most Agents, Mother Agents, and Clients when considering working with a model will check out the model’s Social Media pages.   An Instagram page especially can help or hinder a model greatly as it’s ultimately the image you portray of yourself.   It will give others a look into who you are and what you are about.   Most notably it acts as a quasi-portfolio of your life.

For this reason, you must post flattering images of yourself and show what you do in life that’s interesting.  Before submitting any materials to an agency or agent make sure to go through your social media and remove anything that may be negative or detrimental to your image.

  5. Find a Reputable Mother Agency: Collaborating with a mother agency is a vital step in your modeling journey. They will guide, promote, and represent you in the industry. Research and choose a reputable agency with a track record of helping models succeed.  One good source for finding modeling agencies and mother agencies is www.models.com
  6. Submit Your Application: Visit the website of the mother agency you’re interested in and follow their submission guidelines. Typically, you’ll need to provide your portfolio, snap shots, measurements, and personal information. Make sure your online presence is professional and up-to-date, as agencies often check social media profiles like Instagram.

  7. Attend Open Calls and Casting Calls: Keep an eye out for open calls or casting calls hosted by agencies in your area. This is an opportunity to meet industry professionals, get noticed, and potentially sign with an agency.

Visit the websites of your local model agencies and they will usually have a schedule for open calls as well as a way for you to submit your material to them for consideration.  You should be able to Google: Model Agencies ( name of your closest big city) to find agencies to submit to.

Agencies receive an incredible amount of submissions every day so make sure to keep your submission as short and strong as possible.  Be cautious, however, not to sign any contracts until you are absolutely sure your agency is the best fit for you.  Most Model agencies can have contracts of 2 – 5 years so make certain the agency you sign with is the absolute best fit for you.

Trying to get out of a contract later can prove costly, time-consuming, and sometimes not even possible.  Models have a short time frame to make the most of their career so getting into a contract with a bad agency with a contract you can’t get out of, can destroy a model’s potential.

A good mother agent will guide you through this process and will make sure the contract you sign is legit and reasonable.  If an agency ends up not working out a Mother Agent will be the one with experience and negotiation skills to help you best get out of a contract.

No matter what contract you sign, whether it’s with a Mother Agent or Modeling Agency, you should always have your parents and an attorney look over all potential contracts.

  8. Develop Your Skills: Modeling involves more than just looking good. It requires the ability to pose, express emotions, and work confidently in front of the camera. Consider enrolling in modeling classes or workshops to hone your skills.   Watching and learning from YouTube videos from reputable agencies can provide a lot of great information to help get you started.

    Model Working Out

Maintain Your Appearance: Maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and proper skincare. Your appearance is your asset, so take care of it.

Networking: Building relationships within the industry is essential. Attend fashion events, fashion weeks, and industry parties to connect with photographers, designers, and fellow models. Networking can open doors to exciting opportunities.  In our digital age, networking online and through Instagram can prove invaluable.

  9. Stay Persistent and Resilient: Rejection is a part of the modeling business. Don’t be discouraged by setbacks. Stay persistent, keep improving, and believe in yourself. Success often comes to those who persevere.

Conclusion: Breaking into the modeling industry requires dedication, patience, and hard work. By following these steps and staying committed to your goals, you can increase your chances of becoming a successful model. Remember that success in modeling is not solely about looks; it’s about professionalism, determination, and the ability to adapt to the ever-changing industry. Best of luck on your modeling journey!
